Brake Pad Replacement Service At Russ Darrow Mazda of Greenfield

Brake Pad Replacement in Greenfield, WI

As important as it is to keep your car running well, it is perhaps even more important to be able to stop it when you need it to stop. At Russ Darrow Mazda of Greenfield, we use Mazda parts and the latest diagnostic equipment to make sure your care gets the care it needs. We can change the brake pads, and make sure your whole brake system is in good working order. We are a short drive from Waukesha, Greendale, New Berlin, and St. Francis.

Brake Pad Overview

The brake pads rub against the rotors in your wheels to stop your car when you apply the brake. This material gets very hot but usually wears down very slowly. Eventually, the brake pads will wear down and will need to be replaced. If you have any concerns, bring your car in and we will inspect your brake pads. It is possible to inspect them yourself on many vehicles. Generally a fourth of an inch is the minimum thickness that is considered safe, and below that, they need changing.

Life Expectancy of Brake Pads

There are several ways to tell when your car is needing new brake pads. You may notice it takes longer to get the car stopped for instance. If the car pulls to one side when you apply the brakes, that could be a sign, or it could be a sign of something else but still needs attention. Squealing noise when you apply brakes can be a sign of worn pads but could be just dust. If that noise is consistent, you will need new pads. A grinding noise, however, means the metal is rubbing against your rotors and you need to get them fixed immediately. It could even be dangerous to drive.

Dangers of Ignoring Brake Service

The most immediate danger of having your brakes wear down is that they will ruin the rotors, which is a much more expensive repair. You may want to get your rotors replaced every third brake job, which is not often, but bad rotors cause all sorts of problems and could even make your wheels fall off. The greatest danger is that our car will not stop when you apply the brakes.
